Privacy Policy

The short version

The tools run in your browser and calculate their results there. Nothing about a test run is stored unless you leave your email and ask us to follow up. There are no advertising trackers and no third-party analytics on this site.

What happens when you run a test

Your browser sends DNS queries directly to public resolvers operated by Cloudflare, Google, Quad9, Control D, DNS4EU, CleanBrowsing, and DNSForge. Those requests go from your computer to those companies, which therefore see your IP address — they do not pass through our servers, and we never see them. Each of those operators has its own privacy policy governing what it does with queries it receives.

The timings are measured and scored in your browser. The results you see on screen are not transmitted to us.

What our own server sees

• Your IP address, used to rate limit the API so one visitor cannot exhaust it for everyone. It is sent to Upstash, which counts requests per address for a few minutes and then discards the count. It is not used to build a profile.
• A domain, if you enter one. We look up its public DNS records — nameservers, DNSSEC, and certificate policy. Finding which zone the domain belongs to, and the DNSSEC check, go through Google Public DNS; the nameserver and certificate lookups go through our hosting provider’s DNS resolver. This reads published information only. Nothing belonging to you is scanned, accessed, or changed.
• Ordinary web server logs kept by Vercel, our hosting provider.

If you ask us to follow up

Leaving your email is optional, and the full results are shown before that form ever appears. If you do submit it, we store your email address, the domain you entered if any, and a short summary of the findings in Google Workspace, so our team can follow up. We do not store the individual measurements. These records are kept only as long as reasonably needed to follow up, support any work you ask us to do, prevent abuse, or meet legal obligations. You can ask us to delete this at any time by emailing support@distributeddns.com or calling (580) 448-0440.

Service providers

• Vercel, which hosts this site and keeps its server logs.
• Upstash, which receives the IP address of each request to our API for rate limiting.
• Google Workspace, which stores follow-up requests.
• Google Public DNS, used to find the zone of a domain you enter and to check its DNSSEC.
• The public DNS resolvers named above, which receive your browser’s test queries directly.

Cookies

This site sets no cookies of its own and runs no advertising or analytics trackers.
